COMMON NIGHTHAWK PERCHED & ASLEEP WITH ONE EYE OPEN, COLONEL SAMUEL SMITH PARK, ETOBICOKE, TORONTO, ONTARIO, 5/24/2025

As you can see in the photos, this Common Nighthawk is asleep, but has one eye open (the right eye).  This is common among many birds.  It is a form of unilateral sleep, where one side of the brain is asleep while the other remains active, allowing for the bird to be alert to potential threats or prey.
