MALE GREEN HERMIT (PHAETHORNIS GUY), CERRO GAITAL NATIONAL PARK, EL VALLE DE ANTON,COCLE PROVINCE,PANAMA, 5/24/2019

       We can ID this hummingbird as a male Green Hermit as follows:
  • Blue-green upperparts (we can't see underparts).  How much is blue or green depends on the lighting.
  • Very long, reddish, downcurved bill.
  • Long, graduated tail in which the central pair of feathers are elongated and white-tipped.
  • Dark mask through the eye with buff stripes above and below.

      The Green Hermit is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 874.
