MALE FERRUGINOUS DUCKS, SCHINIAS NATIONAL PARK,MARATHON,ATTICA REGION,GREECE, 10/10/2019

   We can ID this duck as a male Ferruginous Duck (at least the duck in the first two photos) as follows:
  • Chestnut head, neck and breast with a diffuse black ring around the neck
  • Dark upperparts with brownish flanks
  • Conspicuous white eye
  • Blue-grey bill that fades towards light grey towards tip, with small black tip (you can see black tip in second photo)
  • Conspicuous white patch at rear 

   The Ferruginous Duck is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 976.
