FEMALE BLACK-CROWNED ANTSHRIKE (THAMNOPHILUS ATRINUCHA),

      We can ID this bird as a female Black-crowned Antshrike (also called Western Slaty-Antshrike) as follows:
  • Drab brownish overall, with paler underparts
  • Whitish edgings to wings and two whitish wingbars
  • Chestnut crown
  • Hooked bill

      The Black-crowned Antshrike is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 890.



MALE & FEMALE FASCIATED ANTSHRIKE (CYMBILAIMUS LINEATUS), PIPELINE ROAD,GAMBOA,PANAMA, 5/25/2019

      The first two photos show a female Fasciated Antshrike and the last two a male.  We can ID these birds as Fasciated Antshrikes as follows:
  • Both have red eyes
  • Male has fine black-and-white barring
  • Female has fine black and buff barring
  • Rufous crown on female (can't see crown on male)
  • Bill on both is large and hooked
  • Both have blue-gray legs

      The Fasciated Antshrike is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 889.

   The first photo shows a male Dusky Antbird and the second photo a female.




BLACK-BELLIED WREN (THRYOTHORUS FASCIATOVENTRIS), PIPELINE ROAD,GAMBOA,PANAMA, 5/25/2019

      Even though we can't see most of this wren, we can still ID it as a Black-bellied Wren as follows:
  • White throat and breast contrasting sharply with the dark plumage of what we can see - the head, nape and upper back.
  • We can just make out a whitish supercilium.

      The Black-bellied Wren is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 888.



WHOOPING MOTMOT (MOMOTUS SUBRUFESCENS), PIPELINE ROAD,GAMBOA,PANAMA, 5/25/2019

      We can ID this motmot as a Whooping Motmot as follows:
  • Cerulean crown
  • Eyes are masked by a black triangular shaped wedge
  • Green wings, as much as we can see of them
  • Long tail with "racquet" tip
  • Red eyes
  • Bluish-green throat

      The Whooping Motmot is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 887.

MALE WHITE-BELLIED ANTBIRD (MYRMECIZA LONGIPES), PIPELINE ROAD,GAMBOA,PANAMA, 5/25/2019

      We can ID this bird as a male White-bellied Antbird as follows:
  • Rufous upperparts and tail
  • Blackish face, throat and breast
  • Long, grayish supercilium that extends down the side of the neck
  • White belly

      The White-bellied Antbird is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 886.
