CANADA JAY, ALGONQUIN PROVINCIAL PARK - SPRUCE BOG BOARDWALK, NIPISSING COUNTY, ONTARIO, 1/24/2026 - NEW SPECIES TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this bird as a Canada Jay as follows:
- Identified as a Canada Jay by Merlin bird photo ID app. See 2nd photo for colors.
- Gray overall with various shades of gray, with some of the dark grays appearing black depending on the light.
- Forehead, cheeks and throat are light gray to whitish-gray.
- Very dark gray or black cap on head and nape, but light gray ring at bottom of nape.
- Upper parts are very dark gray or blackish looking.
- Medium gray underparts that we can see.
- Dark and long tail.
The Canada Jay is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.
