   The two large gulls ( at center and upper right) are Ring-billed Gulls and the smaller gulls are Bonaparte's Gulls in various stages of development.

MALE WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, PRESQU'ILE PROVINCIAL PARK, BRIGHTON, ON

     We can ID this bird as a male White-breasted Nuthatch as follows:

• Color pattern: very dark crown and nape that contrasts with blue-gray back. Face and underparts are white.  
• Dark eyes stand out against unmarked white face.
• Very short tail.
• Chestnut color on lower belly and tail.
• Long narrowbill.  This can be seen in second photo.

   The first four photos show a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak in breeding plumage.  Its plumage is unmistakable. The last two photos are of a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
