   The gull on the left is a Ring-billed Gull and the one on the right is a Laughing Gull.

LAUGHING GULLS MOLTING FROM NONBREEDING TO BREEDING PLUMAGE, DR. VON D. MIZELL-EULA JOHNSON STATE PARK, DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, 3/10/2025

   March is the time when Laughing Gulls molt from nonbreeding to breeding plumage.  The first photo shows a Laughing Gull that has molted to breeding plumage, but whose bill has not yet turned red.  The second photo shows a Laughing Gull who has just started molting from nonbreeding to breeding plumage, i.e., it's black hood has just started to form.
