BROWN-THROATED PARAKEET, PORT OASIS ECO PARK, CRUISE PORT, CARTAGENA, COLUMBIA, 12/7/2023 - NEW SPECIES TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this parakeet as a Brown-throated Parakeet as follows:
- Identified by Merlin as a Brown-throated Parakeet.
- Some of the various subspecies of the Brown-throated Parakeet have quite different plumage than the nominate race. Also, the lighting was terrible as the parakeet was in the middle of a tree.
- Can't really see much of the underparts, but some yellow does show.
- The upperparts are greenish with some bluish on the wings and the tail.
- The crown appears bluish-gray.
- Grayish eyering with some yellowish/whitish feathers surrounding it.
The Brown-throated Parakeet is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.
WHITE-THROATED TOUCAN, PORT OASIS ECO PARK, CRUISE PORT, CARTAGENA, COLUMBIA, 12/7/2023 - NEW SPECIES TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this Toucan, which is rare at this location, as a White-throated Toucan as follows:
- Black plumage with a white throat and breast bordered with a narrow red line.
- The bare skin around the eye is blue.
- The bill is huge and mainly black; has a upper mandible with a yellowish tip, yellowish upper mandible ridge and yellowish base; and a lower mandible with a blue base.
- The White-throated Toucan is very similar to the Channel-billed Toucan, but has a larger bill, which I believe these photos show.
The White-throated Toucan is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.
