MALE COPPERY-HEADED EMERALD, SODA Y MIRADOR CINCHONA, SAN FERNANDO, ALAJUELA PROVINCE, 10/11/2022 - NEW SPECIES # 1,070 TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this hummingbird as a male Coppery-headed Emerald as follows:
- Downcurved bill
- Coppery crown. You can particularly see this in the second and third photos
- Glittering green face. throat and underparts
- White outer tail feathers
The Coppery-headed Emerald, which is endemic to Costa Rica, is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,070.
MALE PRONG-BILLED BARBET, SODA Y MIRADOR CINCHONA, SAN FERNANDO, ALAJUELA PROVINCE, COSTA RICA, 10/11/2022
We can ID this bird as a male Prong-billed Barbet as follows:
- Stout blue-gray bill
- Red eyes
- Ochre (brown-yellow) cap, face and upper breast
- Nape is also ochre, but with a verticalblack stripe (males only)
- Rest of bird graying with ochre wash in places
The Prong-billed Barbet is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,069.
