MALE BOBOLINK IN BREEDING PLUMAGE, PRAIRIE SMOKE,CARDEN ALVAR,KAWARTHA LAKES,ONTARIO, 6/6/2020

   We can ID this bird as a male Bobolink in breeding plumage as follows:

• Mostly black bird (of what we can see) with straw colored nape
• White shoulders
• Conical-shaped bill

   The Bobolink is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 987.

GRASSHOPPER SPARROW, CAMERON RANCH,KAWARTHA LAKES,ONTARIO, 6/6/2020

    We can ID this Sparrow as a Grasshopper Sparrow as follows:

• Flat headed with a dark brown crown having a central narrow whitish stripe
• Flat head along with a large, conical bill for a small bird and thick neck gives this bird a distinctive look
• Buffy face with whitish eyering, whitish supercilium and orange-yellow lores
• Buffy and white underparts
• Upperparts intricately patterned gray, black and rufous
• Pink legs
• Merlin bird photo ID app identified this bird as a Grasshopper Sparrow

   The Grasshopper Sparrow is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands  at 986.
