YELLOW-TAILED ORIOLE (ICTERUS MESOMELAS), AMMO DUMP PONDS,GAMBOA,PANAMA, 5/25/2019
We can ID this Oriole as a Yellow-tailed Oriole as follows:
- Tail is bright yellow and black. It is the only Oriole with yellow on its tail.
- Head and neck are bright yellow with a black face and bib
- Wings are black with a prominent yellow band
- Back is black with a bright yellow rump
The Yellow-tailed Oriole is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 882.
RUFESCENT TIGER-HERON EATING FISH (TIGRISOMA LINEATUM), AMMO DUMP PONDS,GAMBOA,PANAMA, 5/25/2019
We can ID this heron as a Rufescent Tiger-Heron as follows:
- Rufous head and neck
- Lores have three stripes running from the bill, yellow above and below, grey in center
- Blackish back and wings with fine wavy lines
- Upper bill is dark and lower bill is yellow
- Yellow iris
The Rufescent Tiger-Heron is a new species to our Photographic Life List,which now stands at 881.
RINGED KINGFISHER IN FLIGHT (MEGACERYLE TORQUATA), AMMO DUMP PONDS,GAMBOA,PANAMA, 5/25/2019
Even though this kingfisher was at quit a distance away, we can ID it as a Ringed Kingfisher as follows:
- Mostly rufous underparts (this differentiates it from the Belted Kingfisher)
- Grayish upperparts
- White throat and collar
The Ringed Kingfisher is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 880.
