MALE SOUTHERN POUCHARD, STRANDFONTEIN SEWER WORKS, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

   We can ID this duck as a male Southern Pouchard by its bright red eyes (females do not have red eyes), uniform dark brown head and black tip on bill.
   The Southern Pouchard is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 495.

   It was quite a sight seeing hundreds of Greater Flamingos in the lagoons at Strandfontein Sewer Works.   They are beautiful birds.  In the following photos you can see them in various poses: swimming, standing in water, dabbling and taking off in flight.
