COMMON WATERBUCKS, HWANGE NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE





SOUTHERN WHITE-CROWNED SHRIKE, HWANGE NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE

   We can ID this shrike as a Southern White-crowned Shrike by its white crown and forehead, black mask and black expansion on the ear coverts to nape.
   The Southern White-crowned Shrike is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 444.

MALE & JUVENILE LESSER KESTREL, HWANGE NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE

      The first two photos show an adult male Lesser Kestrel and the third photo shows a juvrnile male.  We can ID the adult male by its plain grey head, face and nape; plain rufous back;  plain grey greater coverts and plain buff underparts.  We can ID the Lesser Kestrel in the third photo as a juvenile male by its barring on the back, white eye patches and malar stripe.   
   The Lesser Kestrel is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 443.




EUROPEAN BEE-EATER, HWANGE NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE

   We can ID this bird as a European Bee-eater by its rufous crown,  yellow throat, black eye-stripe, pale blue underparts and. blue tail.
   The European Bee-eater is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 442.



CRESTED FRANCOLIN, HWANGE NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE



BURCHELL'S SANDGROUSE, HWANGE NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE

   The male Burchell's Sandgrouse is in the first photo, the female in the second photo.  We can ID the male in the first photo by its grey face and throat and white-spotted cinnamon plumage.   The female in the second photo has similar plumage, but has a buffy face and throat.
   Burchell's Sandgrouse is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 441.
