SQUACCO HERON, LIVINGSTONE MATURATION PONDS, LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA

   We can ID this heron as a Squacco Heron by its streaked buff and brown coloration and darker bill.
   The Squacco Heron is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 369.

 

AFRICAN SWAMPHEN, LIVINGSTONE MATURATION PONDS, LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA

   We can ID this bird as an African Swamphen by its large red bill and frontal shield, red legs, purplish coloration with turquoise face and foreneck and greenish-brown back,
   The African Swamphen is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 368.


WOOD SANDPIPER, LIVINGSTONE MATURATION PONDS, LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA

   We can ID this sandpiper as a Wood Sandpiper by its brownish back with white spots, long yellowish legs, long white eyebrows extending well beyond eyes and yellowish base of bill.
   The Wood Sandpiper is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now Stands at 367.

FEMALE RED-BILLED QUELEA, LIVINGSTONE MATURATION PONDS, LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA

   Even though this photo is not the greatest due to distance and poor lighting we can ID this bird as a female Red-billed Quelea by its sparrow-like shape and bill, whitish eyebrow and whitish throat.  Also, if you look closely at the bill you can see some red, which would indicate this is a breeding female.
   The Red-billed Quelea is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 366.

LONG-TOED LAPWING, LIVINGSTONE MATURATION PONDS, LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA

   We can ID this plover as a Long-toed Lapwing by its white face, throat and foreneck; the black of the nape extending down the sides of the neck to form a broad breast band and pinkish-red legs and base of bill.
   The Long-toed Lapwing is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 365.
