LAUGHING DOVE, MARIEVALE BIRD SANCTUARY, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA

   We can ID this dove as a Laughing Dove by its size (it is smaller than a Cape Turtle-Dove which was near it), lack of a black collar on back of neck and pinkish-gray-bluish  body.
   The Laughing Dove is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 334.


SWAINSON'S SPURFOWL, MARIEVALE BIRD SANCTURY, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA

   We can ID this bird as a Swainson's Spurfowl by its size, dark brown color and its red around eyes and on throat.
   The Swainson's Spurfowl is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 333.



SPECKLED MOUSEBIRD, MARIEVALE BIRD SANCTUARY, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA

   We can ID this bird as a Speckled Mousebird by its crest, black mask, very long tail and buffy belly.
   The Speckled Mousebird is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 332.

CAPE SHOVELER, MARIEVALE BIRD SANCTARY, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA

      We can ID this duck as a Cape Shoveler by its long, bluish, spatulate bill, its gray-brown plumage and yellow eyes.
   The Cape Shoveler is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 331.



WHITE-THROATED SWALLOW, MARIEVALE BIRD SANCTUARY, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA

   We can ID this bird as a White-throated Swallow by its blue and white pattern, rufous forehead and black breast band.
   The White-throated Swallow is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 330.




AFRICAN FISH EAGLE, MARIEVALE BIRD SANCTARY, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA

   Even though these photos were taken at a long distance and are blurry we can ID this raptor as an African Fish Eagle by its white head and white breast contrasting with the rest of the bird, which is dark.
   The African Fish Eagle is a nee species to our Life List, which now stands at 329.
