JUVENILE BLACK-CAPPED FLYCATCHER, ROUTE 219, WITHIN SEVERAL MILES OF ENTRANCE TO IRAZU VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK, CARTAGO PROVINCE, COSTA RICA, 10/3/2022 - NEW SPECIES # 1,047 TO LIFE LIST4

Even though this is a poor photo, we can ID this tyrant flycatcher as a juvenile Black-capped Flycatcher as follows:
  • Full black cap that includes the eyes
  • Seen in Costa Rica highlands.  It is endemic to Costa Rica and Panama highlands
  • Whitish eyering
  • Brownish upperparts (juvenile).  Because of poor lighting we can just bearly make out one of its wing bars
  • Whitish throat
  • Pale buffish-cinnamon underpants
The Black-capped Flycatcher is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,047.
