FEMALE BLACKPOLL WARBLER IN BREEDING PLUMAGE, COLONEL SAMUEL SMITH PARK,TORONTO,ONTARIO, 5/31/2020

We birded today with our friend, Peter Sproule.  He really knows his birds by sight and sound and knows where to find the birds at Colonel Samuel Smith Park.  He spotted our new species, a Blackpoll Warbler.  Thanks Peter!
Even though the photos aren't that good, we can still ID this bird as a female Blackpoll Warbler in breeding plumage as follows:
  • Small size
  • Basically black and white
  • Whitish underparts with blackish streaks on flank
  • Blackish upperparts with two white wingbars
  • Whitish throat with thin gray necklace
  • Dark eyeline
  • Undertail pattern is that of a Blackpoll Warbler
The Blackpoll Warbler has the longest migration of any North American warbler, including extremely long, nonstop, transoceanic flights.  These nonstop flights are up to 2,175 miles and take up to 88 hours.

The Blackpoll Warbler is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 983.
