COMMON KESTREL, OROPOS LAGOON,ATTICA REGION,GREECE, 10/10/2019

   We can ID this as a Common Kestrel as follows:
  • Small raptor
  • Greyish head with dark eyestripe and pale cheek patch  
  • Chestnut brown upperparts
  • Yellowish feet  

   The Common Kestrel is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 970.

EUROPEAN SHAGS IN WATER, OROPOS LAGOON,ATTICA REGION,GREECE, 10/10/2019

   The first two photos show a nonbreeding adult European Shag and last photo shows a juvenile.  We can ID these cormorants as European Shags as follows:
  • Rounded head
  • Thin bill
  • Yellow throat patch
  • Adult is black with green gloss and juvenile is brownish with grayish throat
  • Adult has a dark bill and juvenile has a dull yellow bill

   The European Shag is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 969.
