RUDDY CRAKE, CAMINO A PLANTA DE TRATAMIENTO, COZUMEL, MEXICO, 6/23/2025 - NEW SPECIES TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this rail as a Ruddy Crake as follows:
- Gray head with reddish eyes.
- Dark bill.
- Overall rufous with contrasting gray head.
The Ruddy Crake is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.
VAUX'S SWIFT IN FLIGHT, CAMINO A PLANTA DE TRATAMIENTO, COZUMEL, MEXICO, 6/23/2025 - NEW SPECIES TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this Swift as Vaux's Swift as follows:
- Both Merlin and Google Images identified (first photo) this Swift as Vaux's Swift.
- Cigar-shaped body.
- Short tail.
- Pale gray breast and throat with rest of underparts darker.
- Arched wings.
- Vaux's Swift is the main Swift species found in Cozumel and is a common sight.

COZUMEL WREN, CAMINO A PLANTA DE TRATAMIENTO, COZUMEL, MEXICO, 6/23/2025 - NEW SPECIES TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this bird as a Cozumel Wren as follows:
- Bird in both photos identified by both Merlin and Google Image as a Cozumel Wren.
- Whitish/Grayish underparts.
- Brown upper parts.
- Dark upper mandible and orange lower mandible.
- Dark eye with indistinct pale supercilium.
- There is no other species in Cozumel similar to the Cozumel Wren.
