CACTUS WREN, SAN JOSE DEL CABO ESTUARY, LOS CABOS, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO, 12/17/2023 - NEW LIFE SPECIES
We can ID this wren as a Cactus Wren as follows:
- Upperparts are brownish with black and white spots.
- Distinctive white eyebrow that goes to the nape of the neck.
- Chest, throat and face are white with black spots.
- Underparts are cinnamon-buff colored with black spots.
The Cactus Wren is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List. Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,102.

VERDIN TAKING OFF IN FLIGHT FROM A BRANCH , SAN JOSE DEL CABO ESTUARY, LOS CABOS, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO, 12/17/2023

- Very small bird.
- Grayish overall with a yellow head.
- Rufous shoulder patch.

We can ID this woodpecker as a male Gila Woodpecker as follows:
- Plain buffy-brown with black and white barring on back.
- Red on about the front half of the crown (male).
