BANDED PIPING PLOVER CHICK, PRESQU'ILE PROVINCIAL PARK, BRIGHTON, ONTARIO, 7/2/2023

This Piping Plover chick has three bands, two colored bands on its left leg and on its right leg, a USGS aluminum band with a unique 9-digit number (which couldn't be read in the photos).  The chicks are banded between five and sixteen days of age.  Every sibling in a brood gets the same colors (2 or 3).
The colored bands allow recognition of individuals from a distance.  The orange band indicates that the bird is from the Great Lakes.

1ST YEAR GRAY CATBIRD, PRESQU'ILE PROVINCIAL PARK, BRIGHTON, ONTARIO, 7/2/2023

We can tell this is a 1st year Gray Catbird by its cloudy more grayish eyes, rather than the clear black eyes of an adult catbird.  Gray Catbirds become fully mature when they are one year old.

MOLTING YELLOW WARBLER FLEDGELINGS, PRESQU'ILE PROVINCIAL PARK, BRIGHTON, ONTARIO, 7/2/2023

The first two photos show a Yellow Warbler fledgeling which still has much of the down of a chick.  The last two photos show a more advanced Yellow Warbler fledgeling, with a lot less down.   Both fledglings could fly, but how far we couldn't tell.
