SLATY-TAILED TROGON, YAXCHILAN MAYAN RUINS,CHIAPAS,MEXICO, 11/10/2018





YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, YAXCHILAN MAYAN RUINS,CHIAPAS,MEXICO, 11/10/2018

      We can ID this flycatcher as a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher as follows:

  • Small size
  • Strong white eyering 
  • Two whitish wingbars strongly contrast with black wings
  • Greenish chest and pale-yellow belly.  It should be noted that wintering birds, such as this one, do not have as much yellow as breeding ones
  • Upper mandible of bill is dark, while lower mandible is pinkish
  • Wings and tail which are darker than rest of upperparts, which are greenish
      The Yellow-bellied Flycatcher is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 833.

GRAY-HEADED TANAGER, YAXCHILAN MAYAN RUINS,CHIAPAS,MEXICO, 11/10/2018

      We can ID this tanager as a Gray-headed Tanager as follows:
  • Bright yellow underparts
  • Short, conical, black bill
  • Bluish-gray head
  • Whitish throat (see third photo)
  • Yellow legs
  • Wings we can see are greenish, but we can't see rest of upperparts
      The Gray-headed Tanager is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 832.
