We can ID this bird as a Common Raven rather then an American Crow by its size (24" vs 17.5") and by its shaggy throat (you can see this in the first photo).

MALE BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD, HALLS ROAD NORTH,WHITBY,ON, 10/9/18
The bird in front is the male Brown-headed Cowbird. The other two birds in back of it we could not ID.
MALE HAIRY WOODPECKER, HALLS ROAD NORTH, WHITBY, ON, 10/9/18
We can ID this woodpecker as a Hairy Woodpecker rather than a Downy Woodpecker because of its relatively large size (9" vs. 6 1/2"). The woodpecker was close enough so we could judge its size. Another indicator that this woodpecker is a Hairy Woodpecker is that the eyebrows are broken by black in the back of the head. You can see the in the first photo and last two photos. In a Downy Woodpecker the eyebrows are continuos in the back of the head.
