GROOVE-BILLED ANI, TEMPISQUE RIVER, GUANACASTE, COSTA RICA
We can ID this bird as a Groove-billed Ani by its long tail and short, thick and arched bill. It is very similar to the Smooth-billed Ani, however this species is not in the Guanacaste area.
The Groove-billed Ani is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 289.
JUVENILE CRESTED CARACARA, FILADELPHIA, GUANACASTE, COSTA RICA
This is probably a juvenile Crested Caracara, as indicated by the the significant amount of brown, rather than the black of an adult.
