NORTHERN PARULA, FREEDOM MEMORIAL PARK, NAPLES, FL

   Even though we cannot see the entire bird in the photo, enough is showing to be able to ID this warbler as a Northern Parula:
  • Blue-gray head and wings.
  • Two short white wingbars.
  • Yellow front neck and chest with dark band across between them.
   The Northern Parula is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 267.



MALE PRAIRIE WARBLER, FREEDOM MEMORIAL PARK, NAPLES, FL

   We have identified this warbler as a Prairie Warbler as follows:
  • Bright yellow below with black streaks down its side.
  • Dark neck spot.
  • Rufous streaks on back (on male only).
  • Yellow eyebrow (on male only).
   The Praire Warbler is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 266.

   Thanks to Ed Kemnitzer for showing me and identifying the snake.  Based on its size, scales around eyes, lack of patterning and creamy underside it is probably a Florida Green Water Snake.
