FIDDLER CRABS, TIGERTAIL BEACH, MARCO ISLAND, FL
The Fiddler Crabs live in the burrow holes in the sand shown in the third photo. As I walked towards them, the crabs scurried to get into their holes.
NONBREEDING PIPING PLOVER, TIGERTAIL BEACH, MARCO ISLAND, FL
We identified this shorebird as a Piping Plover as follows:
- Small, stocky frame
- Large dark eye on pale face
- Orange legs
The Piping Plover is a new species to our Life List, which now stands at 237.
NONBREEDING MARBLED GODWIT, TIGERTAIL BEACH, MARCO ISLAND, FL
We identified this sandpiper as a nonbreeding Marbled Godwit as follows:
- Very long upturned bill with pinkish base
- Large size
- Buffy/cinnamon color
