MALE RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD WITH FEATHERLESS HEAD, ASHBRIDGES BAY PARK, TORONTO, ONTARIO, 7/20/2022

This male Red-winged Blackbird has lost all of its head feathers. Adult male Red-winged Blackbirds molt between July-October.   For some unknown reason a few birds of some species (e.g., Red-winged Blackbird, American Cardinal,  Blue Jay) lose all their head feathers at once, instead of their head feathers molting in a staggered fashion.  The head feathers usually grow back.
