PLAIN CHACHALACAS, COURTYARD MARRIOTT CANCUN AIRPORT, CANCUN,MEXICO, 11/2/2018

      We can ID this Chachalaca as as a Plwin Chachalaca as follows:
  • Location - The Plain Chachalaca is the only Chachalaca whose range includes Cancun
  • Long neck with a small head
  • Bare throat patch which becomes red during breeding season
  • Gray head and neck
  • Dull olive-brown uppperparts
  • Long tail with white tip
  • Pale underparts
       The Plain Chachalaca is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 799B.

SOCIAL FLYCATCHER, COURTYARD CANCUN AIRPORT,CANCUN,MEXICO, 11/1/2018

         We can ID this Tyrant Flycatcher as a Social Flycatcher as follows:
  • Short, slightly downcurved (you can see this in the first photo), thin bill (This distinguishes the Social Flycatcher from the Great Kiskadee and Boat-billed Flycatcher, which are similar looking, but have long, thick bills)
  • Bold, black and white striped head
  • Olive-brown upperparts
  • Yellow underparts, with white throat.


    The Social Flycatcher is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 798A.
