MALE BLUE-BLACK GROSBEAK, BONAMPAK MAYAN RUINS,CHIAPAS,MEXICO, 11/11/2018

      We can ID this bird as a male Blue-black Grosbeck as follows: 
  • Very dark blackish-blue, with lighter bluish gloss in some areas, such as the eyebrows, shoulder region, etc,  The lighter bluish gloss depends on the lighting.  For example the first two photos do not show much lighter bluish gloss, while the last two photos do show significant lighter bluish gloss
  • Short, very stout, conical bill
  • Broad tail
      The Blue-black Grosbeck is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 835.

CINNAMON BECARD, BONAMPAK MAYAN RUINS,CHIAPAS,MEXICO, 11/11/2018

      We can ID this bird as a Cinnamon Becard as follows:
  •  Overall rufous and cinnamon colors
  • Whiter throat and belly; darker crown; darker wings; lighter upperparts.  These can best be seen in first photo
  • Pale supercilium and dusky (darkish) lores.  This differentiates the Cinnamon Becard from other similar cinnamon/rufous species
      The Cinnamon Becard is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 834.
